Tour – Cerámica de los Ancestros: Central America’s Past Revealed
April 23 @ 12:00 pm
Museum Ambassador Ruth Rosenberg gives a 45-minute guided tour through the exhibition, “Cerámica de los Ancestros: Central America’s Past Revealed.” It examines seven broad regions representing Central American cultural areas that are today part of Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the exceptional artistry of approximately 155 objects made of clay, gold, jade, stone and shell. All together, these objects span the period from 2000 B.C. to the present and provide fascinating details about the lives of the peoples who have called the area home for centuries. In collaboration with the Smithsonian Latino Center, “Cerámica de los Ancestros” is the culmination of several years of research on the NMAI’s vast collection of Central American ceramics.
Tours of “Cerámica de los Ancestros: Central America’s Past Revealed” are now offered in Spanish upon request. Sundays at 2 p.m. For tours in Spanish, please contact Visitor Services at 212-514-3794 or NMAI-NY@si.edu.
