VolcanO, Bilingual Theater for Children
March 3 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
GALita, a program of GALA for the entire family, is proud to present the bilingual production of VolcanO – Tales of El Salvador by Cornelia Cody.
For generations, the popular Salvadoran folk tales of the cadejos, the magic dogs of the volcanoes, have been passed down from family to family. With lively music and movement, the stories of the cadejos now come to life on stage as they protect Salvadorans at home and abroad from eruptions of volcanoes, thieves in the night, and journeys across borders.
“VolcanO” states playwright Cornelia Cody, “are beautiful, dangerous, volatile, and a part of the Salvadoran landscape. What better metaphor to use when speaking of personal danger and loss? I chose to include well-known folktales in the play with an underlying story of two siblings dealing with separation and loss. Theatre and folktales are dynamic ways to heal these two universal struggles and find a way to achieve both unity and triumph.”
