We are delighted to announce a third dual language program will open its doors East of the River in school year 2021-22.
Last month, the DC Public Charter School Board moved to grant preliminary approval to Global Citizens Public Charter School to offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish and Mandarin, in two separate pathways. Although an exact location remains to be determined, the school, by virtue of being located East of the River, will be more easily accessible to underserved families and students in wards 7 and 8.
We are proud to have contributed to this success. Dr. Natalie Smith, Global Citizens PCS Founder and CEO said “From leveraging its research to receiving counsel from its board president and having the executive director provide testimony in support of our approval, DC Language Immersion Project has been a staunch supporter of our application and incubation. We look forward to continuing to partner together as we prepare to launch.”DC Immersion began its work in the Deanwood neighborhood of Ward 7 working with the community to help advocate for more access to opportunity-boosting dual language immersion programs. Our relentless work over the last five years has led to the creation and growth of three dual language programs East of the River. Our work continues.
We send huge congratulations to the entire Global Citizens PCS team, and look forward to be of continued support in the road ahead. To learn more about Global CItizens PCS, check www.globalcitizensschool.org and follow them on social media @citizenspcs.
