Immersion Programs in DC

As of school year 2018/19, there are 24 dual language immersion public schools/programs in DC, as listed by MySchoolDC and including Latin American Montessori Bilingual PCS (currently not part of MySchoolDC lottery). As of school year 2019/20, there will be 25.

Elementary grades:

Bancroft DCPS (Spanish)

Bruce Monroe at Park View DCPS (Spanish)

Cleveland DCSP (Spanish) – currently only has a dual language immersion strand

DC Bilingual PCS (Spanish)

Elsie Whitlow Stokes (Brookland) PCS (French and Spanish)

Elsie Whitlow Stokes (East End) PCS (French and Spanish)

Houston Elementary DCPS (Spanish)

Latin American Montessori Bilingual PCS (Spanish) – has three campuses. We consider this as one program despite the three campuses.

Marie Reed DCPS (Spanish) – currently only has a dual language immersion strand

Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy (16th Street) PCS (Spanish) – please note that only PK3 to 2nd grade are in dual language immersion.

Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy (Brookland) PCS (Spanish) – please note that only PK3 to 2nd grade are in dual language immersion.

Mundo Verde PCS (Spanish) – will be adding a second campus in school year 2019/20

Please note that starting in middle school, programs in a dual language pathway no longer need to have at least 50% of instructional time in the partner language but must have at least two classes in the partner language (generally one language class and one content class).

Carlos Rosario International PCS (multiple languages) – has two campuses

Dear Families, educators, and partners,

In 2020 we announced that the DC Language Immersion Project would close its doors due to lack of resources. However, before completely dissolving the organization, we recently asked a group of local and national educators if they - individually or collectively - would be interested in continuing the work of advocating for multilingual education in the District of Columbia. We are pleased to announce that a few individuals responded yes and volunteered to forge a plan to continue this vital work.

So, we are not closing our doors but we are entering a six-to-twelve-month period of dormancy as we determine the best path forward for the DC Immersion Project.  Thank you for your continued support and please stay tuned for updates.
